With the Cataclysm Classic Pre-Patch well underway, many players have noticed the absence of something that was widely anticipated - the Cataclysm Pre-Patch events.
In the original Cataclysm, the Pre-Patch was split into four phases - Phases 1 and 2 set the stage for later, more severe events in Phases 3 and 4. From finding undercover members of the Twilight Cult in capital cities all the way to elemental invasion portals appearing around Azeroth, the Pre-Patch events had something for everyone - take a look!
Twilight's Cult Prepatch Events
In the Twilight's Cult portion of the Pre-Patch, players began in Stormwind and Orgrimmar, following a quest chain to discover Doomsayers, NPCs that preached the end being nigh. Passing out flyers such as
Fuego elemental para el alma
and
¿Cómo me afecta a mí "el fin de todas las cosas"?
, these NPCs were actually recruiters for the Twilight's Hammer, a cult that worships the Old Gods and wants to bring about the end of the world.
Human and Troll Doomsayers
Through a twisting investigation that had you infiltrate the Cult, attempt to rescue indoctrinated townsfolk, and discover that the leader of the Cult is none other than
, players were finally exposed to the next step of the Twilight's Cult plans: planting
Dispositivos elementales
around the capital cities in preparation for a full-scale elemental invasion. While you may have served as an early warning, it was clear - the Twilight's Cult infection ran deeper than anyone could have anticipated.
In the second half of the Twilight's Cult event, faction leaders decided that the best course of action would be to take the fight directly to the Twilight's Cult - no more waiting for an attack and finding Doomsayers skulking in back alleys. As elemental rifts open around Azeroth, players raced against time to stop the Cult from a full-scale attack.
Between forcefully interrupting rituals in major cities and traveling to Nagrand to find out more about the impending elemental invasions, players discovered that they were too late - things were in motion beyond their control.
Elemental Invasions
While players were discovering the Twilight Cult's plot, a much more immediate threat presented itself - elemental invasions throughout Azeroth, with portals constantly opening to spew forth powerful elementals. They truly were everywhere - even in Outland!

As players raced to close the rifts faster than they could open, the Earthen Ring attempted to find the source of the elemental disruptions. After calming elementals in the capital cities, along with progressing the Twilight's Cult event, players learned it was too late: the elemental invasion had truly begun.
Elemental Lords and their minions poured into capital cities, and players furiously fought them back. After wave upon wave of elemental forces, the Alliance and Horde were eventually victorious - but these events set the stage for Deathwing's return and the Sundering of Azeroth.
Where's the Event?
Sadly, these Pre-Patch events did not make it to the Cataclysm Classic Pre-Patch. While many players were excited about reliving the Elemental Invasions and hunting for the Twilight Cultists, others wanted to experience the event for the first time. The Cataclysm Classic Pre-Patch was met with vocal reactions from players regarding its launch state, particularly due to persistent and
sometimes game-breaking bugs.
It is possible that the accelerated Pre-Patch schedule (20 days versus 24 days with the original Cataclysm) posed a problem in activating events. Another possibility is that given the technical issues, Cataclysm Classic was inundated with in the Pre-Patch stage, Blizzard was concerned about the stability and quality of the events if they had gone live.
While it is unfortunate that the Pre-Patch invasions have seemingly been lost to time, there does remain a shred of hope - you never know what the Bronze Dragonflight might do in the future.
