Interesting, and first :)
Awesome!Edit - I wonder how the guy got his information . . .
Unbelievable!
Girls do play. We're just very sneaky. >:D
Back in ye olden days (read: 90's), I only ever recall experiencing a high number of female gamers playing console RPGs and puzzle games. These days, the casual games market is HUGE (things like Zuma and Diner Dash), especially among the older women demographic (mothers, mostly). With the eventual evolution of things like Ultima Online and EQ, going into WoW, it's easy to see how ladies would make the natural transition to WoW as there's a lot of things ladies can enjoy: chatting which naturally leads to gossip, the multitude of armor options (great for coordinating outfits), and sadly the shallower side of the spectrum, which is basically being a girl in a candy store of mens (sups Ladies' Night loot).I just don't understand though, even as a female myself, why ladies have to tout the fact they play video games like they deserve some sort of parade. You're going against a self imposed stereotype that really only exists because you make it exist. If ladies stopped thinking that video games were purely a man's sport, we all wouldn't share the mindset to begin with. And it especially doesn't help when you have these "girl gamer" groups who really are just drama factories in and of themselves. They end up hurting more than anything else, reinforcing worse stereotypes than "girls don't game". If ladies want to promote gaming to their own gender, maybe they should be a little more low key, imo. /rant

Shortest blog yet?
those arent girls those are womenz
For those of you who are wondering where the source is, I have edited in the Nielsen report link into the blog above. :P
I know a certain guy on Shattered Hand who's ( I hope ) going to get his mouth shut.
My 5 year old daughter loves playing videogames. She is not a "womenz."
Almost half of everyone I play with are women, I am so not surprised at that. Kinda sad my demographic is sooo low though :(.
Wow. That's pretty incredible. However, I am hardly surprised at all...
Women on the internet blasphemy! We all know women are in the kitchen making men sammiches./jokeFirst time I met a women during WoW I found out she was a mother of 2 children (whom were asleep and was taking care of the time).
Women. Not Girls.I guess boys, not men, don't play this game as well.
cool, i saw this on WoW insider, its great site.one thing about the women i play with, they're funny as hell and nicehttp://www.wowinsider.com/2009/04/09/nielsen-wow-is-most-played-core-game-by-25-54-females/Edit: Robyn, how about Females? i know a 10 year old girl who plays a lvl 73 Rogue (it's her dads =P). although the majority of the females playing are considered Women, why not include everyone?
who'da thunk
Meh, it's a popular game, of course it's going to have a high demographic of female players - it has a high quantity of players, overall. Apparently the rest of these female PC gamers are are playing Windows stock card games and whatnot. Entertainment, of course, but uninteresting in comparison. Hell, my mom is over 60 and spends a lot of her free time either on her PC playing Peggle and stuff on those MSN game sites or puzzle/thinking stuff on her Nintendo DS. I'd like to see more information on what people who actually purchase games for entertainment are playing. I found it pretty interesting that so many people were playing Half-Life 2 over 4 years later - though that probably counts every Source mod game that runs off hl2.exe.Also, offsubject, but Nintendo REALLY needs to drop the 'ignorant looking psuedo-famous chicks play DS' ad campaign. It's insulting how amazed and shocked these idiots look playing simple brainfart games on the DS, like a baby fascinated by bright colours and amazing shapes.
