Hide my gaming habit? uahuahauhauhaha The 1st thing I said in my intro to my engineering colleagues was "I play games, loads of em".
Ryokuga: I would love to read your intro in its entirety.Mikunt212: Out of curiosity, what kind of Zelda tattoo do you have on your chest? Tri-Force? Princess Zelda herself? Hrm...As far as hiding who we are, that's something a lot of people do. However, insofar as gaming it's a taboo which is quickly fading. Popular games with such incredible outreach as WOW make it more socially acceptable, though modern media is still reigned by the prior generations.
I like smoking out closet gamers.I once referred to a meat and cheese gift as "Smokeywood Pastures", and was surprised to see three of the younger adults at a family christmas gathering start to lose it.
Lol, I think I'm going to do something like that tessae. Great idea.
there are a lot of people out there that play wow but by looking at them you would never think they did at my high school at lest 40% of the population plays wow and trust me its not just the nerds but jocks and skater kids play as well but they try their hardest not to let people know they play it its a thing thats being called a "closet" wow player. you play wow but you dont let people know you play and try to keep it that way remember 12 million people play wow at this point not just the nerds are playing but other people play as well i know i'm on my high school athletic team and i play lol

I think alot of people categorise themselves and others too much. Some say they're casuals, some hardcore, some are nerds and some are really normal people... I consider myself to be pretty normal, while also playing alot more than most. I have friends, I'm eating healthy and is in good shape, I have other interests besides gaming like reading, politics and watching sports (I have to admit that the only game I play nowadays is WoW). I love cooking, though I'm mostly horrible at it, and I enjoy cleaning as well.I played alot of games while growing up and was very interested in computers, yet I have to say I don't identify with any group but the "normal" one really (ahh here I am categorising myself!). My hobbies and interests are of a special mesh, like everyone elses, but nothing that sticks out like a sore thumb. You can be cool while still being considered nerdy by your peers. :)And btw, "normal" =/= "plain, boring." The only people who thinks that is mostly teenagers insecure about themselves and want to prove something to the world by being "special." I think it's a safe bet to say that most of us are unique, no need to play the outcast role. :)
People generally don't keep secrets very well. Giving some amount of "secret" to another is like giving away your control--be wary of those who may become angry with you down the road. It can come back to haunt you.
I don't hide my gaming habits, but I don't flaunt them either. I used to consider myself in a minority group for games - a little over the hill, female, married - but then I realised, the stereotype of games being full of spotty teenagers just isn't that accurate anymore, and I'm really pleased to find a lot of regular adults play too. I've always been a bit of a "nerd", being a programmer in my younger years and taking up a rather bizarre profession in my later years which I won't go into here, so many perhaps don't consider me normal even before I add wow to the mix.But really, what is normal? Normal is having a job, a family, a social network of whatever that may be, and relaxing in your spare time. Some people watch a lot of tv. Others go to the pub every night, or go clubbing. Some play golf, drive fast cars, go to football matches, and some play WoW - the stigma is the people who take it too far. We've all heard the stories of people dying or being hospitalised because they played games past the point of dehydration, we've heard about people losing jobs, dropping out of school etc. because they can't leave the game and so people who know nothing about wow may associate it with negative, abnormal things. All things in moderation I suppose.
