Using this enchant with the Herbalist's Gloves (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=7361) made by leatherworkers can help reduce the number of failed attempts you have when picking up herbs like Mountain Silversage and Black Lotus. As far as I know there is no horde equivalent for the gloves recipe since it's sold by an alliance vendor, however there is always the neutral auction houses.

Sadly, this recipe is now useless except for when leveling, since at max herbalism, you can't fail. Tremendously devalue on what was a moderately useful thing to have.

Put this enchant on some low level cloth gloves that don't BOE like these:

That way any character can wear them, then you won't have to toss them when you get to max level herbalism, you can just mail them to an alt or a friend.

From what I've heard this could work similiarly to +5 mining to gloves wherein it gives you a higher chance to pick fel lotus, mote of life, etc. off of herbs when max level herbalism. Can anyone more knowledgable confirm or deny?

As of August 2008 the drop rate has definitely increased. It is close to 10% (3/30). Blizz must have increased it.

Bottom line if you want this before the WotLK (and inscription) just kill a set or two of the mobs and you will have the recipe in 10 min.

Some good advice here.

My experience - I did a partial clear of Misty Valley, no drop. Went toolking around SoS to get the Explored Achievment and saw a wandering Tangled Horror. I thoguht "What the heck" - dismounted, killed & there was the Formula.

You don't have to be an enchanter to have it drop or loot this as I farmed the enchant on my DK and got it after 20 or so mobs

I was killing the mobs for 2-3h and snapped, hs'd to dala.... I would even pay 1k g for it but never and I mean NEVER saw it on AH (checking AH for ench recipes for over 2y every day)... btw playing on medium population server.

1. This is extremely handy when u're lvling a char and his herb skill, cuz there is always that time that u find a nod and u're 3 (or 1 for more balls busting) lower than required. Combides with the crafted gloves is cool!.

2. I farmed them for 10 mins, cleared it 3 times and nothing. On the 4th time i got it 2 times from 1 clear. So just be patience. cheers

It appears that all of the elementals have been removed in 4.0.3a. I am unsure as to whether or not this enchant is still available anymore as a result.

I've submitted a ticket asking about this cause I'm wanting this for my enchanter as well. Just ran the questchain for the gloves for my leatherworker to make and they only sell 1 at a time. Was thinkin about farmin the pattern and selling on the AH, but then I'd probably make more gold making the gloves and selling them that way. Anyone that had this enchantment still have it by chance? Or was it removed with 4.0.3?

Edit: Finally heard back 6 days after posting this and submitting ticket shortly before. GM name withheld, but their response was: "I've done some digging and it looks like this pattern should still exist in-game. I'm, unfortunately, unable to point you to the exact place where it drops, however, it should be obtainable."

While I'm glad it is still in the game, a general zone or something more than this would have been better like the GM told one poster about the +2 Herbalism enchantment drop. If anyone does happen to find this anywhere, please post what mob drops it now.

I tried the bog beast in Dustwallow Marsh for a while no luck. I figure it is probably a drop from another bog beast somewhere. I am guessing it would be in a swamp type area. Until someone lucks into it anyone's guest is good as another... Good luck please post if you find it

I suspect the value of this formula will skyrocket as it is clearly very rare now (if truly still in game). Cata dropped over 2 months ago, and we still don't know where it is. Unlike other old "status symbol" formulas, this one still has actual game-play value. As stated on the first comment it is the perfect match for Guantes de herborista with the combined boost to herbalism of +10. There will always be leveling herbalists therefor this item/enchant combo will always have value. So once again... good luck, please post if you find!

confirmed, just killed molt thorn but no drop

okay after about almost 3 hrs of farming no drop! It seems the molt thron is the only npc that may drop it but its rare spawn at times varies 20 mins to 18 hrs. Here is what dropped.

Found the Molt thorn @ 50,39 (map on wow cords) 50,41 coords but he didnt drop the plans and did not have a fast respawn rate for me. its been about 2 hrs since I killed him.

I passed through the area now containing Misty Grells and after about fifty kills with the only notable drop being a piece of Felcloth, I think it's safe to say that this pattern no longer has a host from which it drops. I hope I've proven wrong (Molt Thorn?) because I wouldn't mind having it.

As I'm sitting in Swamp of Sorrows, I see a number of Shifting Mireglob. Anyone try to farm them up? I plan to do that later, just dun feel like it ATM.

EDIT: Had a ticket for another issue, asked about this while I was at it, was told 2 things. Yes it still drops, and it has a very low drop. I might go after those blobs tomorrow, works toward the oozling pet at least

So I am assuming I am like the rest of you and are farming for this pattern and have read through here and can't seem to figure out what to farm, so I opened a ticket and here is the response I got:

Hm.
The pattern is still in game but extremely difficult to get. It's in the Swamp of Sorrows but that's all I can really say.
Given the difficulty I have submitted a report to our quality assurance team to investigate as this may be unintended given the mobs were removed and a slight oversight, though I cannot really say.They also may have wanted to make this enchant extremely rare. ;)

If it does still drop, it isn't a normal zone drop. Elemental de Manantial has 117,000+ kills with no drops of it.

Edit: Makrura de orilla de pantano has 201,000+ kills with no drops.

I've killed Molt Thorn about 20 times before 5.0, and again about 10 times since 5.0, still nothing :/

so i went looking for the Molt Thorn that drop it, and i only have been there for one cycle but no luck. The first time i killed it was 1:15 then at 4:50. i am going to camp and see if i have any luck. Good luck i hope this helps. =D

it appears that this enchant and the Pala de herborista are mutually exclusive, i have Guantes de herborista with this enchant on my dk. i also have the new spade that gives +10herb. i opened my professions window, then equipt the gloves and didnt see an increase. i dont have a guild perk at all. so it appears that this doesnt stack with the spade. i also vendored the spade then equipt the gloves and got +10 again. but i did not have +20 while having the spade in my bags or in the bank and equiping the gloves. the spade still worked while it was in my bank. however i didnt actually try to pick an herb that was 20 skill points beyond my skill level while haveing the spade witth me and the gloves on. also, this dk is a tauren idk if that has any influence on the results of this experiment.

ps same thing happened with the new mining pick and the advanced mining enchant.

GM confirmed me today that this recipe no longer drops from any mob IG.
Having 200+ kills on Molt Thorn without a drop, I assume this is right.

Should mark as no longer obtainable, unless proved otherwise

I have killed him over 40 times now, writing the time of the kill and then being there around 4 hours later to kill him again... not once has he dropped the enchant. I don't believe he still drops this either. :(

Just got this recipe from the Auction House!
Some poor fool put it there for 20 silver with no buyout.
The auction ended today, and I won it for 198g =D.
I feel kinda bad for the guy who sold it though... He could have won a lot of gold with this recipe.

Since I farmed this for a while, I finally got GM response about this formula and some others that are STILL obtainable:

I understand how frustrating it can be when items you want don’t drop.

The items you listed are all still in the game an obtainable. For example the fishing enchant comes primarily from the Murlocs in Hillsbrad.

Advanced Mining from Stranglethorn Venture Co. Strip Miners.

The Lesser Parry is a world drop sadly.

And the Herbalism one is the only one to be actually Removed from the game as the mobs that drop it have been removed from what I can tell - and I don't think it was moved. the only NPC still in there is: Fundespino - he still drops it.

Missed it on the AH earlier this week for 1 gp. Picked it up 4 days later for 20K, and I'm assuming it's the same copy since it's the first I've seen in a long time on our relatively quiet server. The first posting struck me as odd because, assuming it's not been reintroduced to a loot table, you'd think anyone with this in the bank has been playing to have some idea what they have. Second posting was odd because it looks as if the seller has level 1 alts with the same name on 75 different servers...

Second thought and caution: a couple of weeks ago Bliz reintroduced the other out-of-game profession glove enchant, Mining, now sold by a vendor in Arathi Highlands. It is possible this formula now exists somewhere in the game as a common drop or vendor item, although it's not yet showing up commonly in auction houses yet. It's also possible it will happen soon. Too late for me, but this might be a good time for collectors, completionists and AH flippers to be cautious about plunking down huge sums for supposedly defunct drops...

Which Herbalist Boost Is Best?

I did a little study with all the herbalism boosters available today - here's what I found.

(WARNING! Herbalist's Gloves are Leather, and therefor they can not be equipped by cloth wearers.)

a) I enchanted +5 Herbalist's Gloves with the +2 to Herbalism enchant, and with a Gnomish Army Knife I get a total of +17 to Herbalism.

b) Having the same enchanted herbalist's gloves on, and with the herbalism spade in my bags, I still have +17 herbalism. So there is no change or addition to herb gathering with the spade added to the gloves.

c) The Herbalist's Spade gives +10 to herbalism; however this does not stack with the Gnomish Army Knife, and your skill bonus will remain at 10 despite having both in your bags.

CONCLUSION:

Herbalist's Gloves enchanted for +2 herb gathering, coupled with the spade the gnomish army knife will give you a total of +17—this is the best boost to Herbalism.

NOTE TO TAURENS:

The Tauren racial buff is +15 to herb gathering, and faster herb cultivation. When you equip items that raise your herb skill it will appear on your Herbalism leveling bar as a plus to gathering. However the Tauren racial does not appear as a plus on your bar. So everything below applies to all races, and the Tauren racial can be added if you are a Tauren.)

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

If you want the very best herb bonus (this has not been tested yet), enchant Herbalist's Gloves with the +5 "Enchant Gloves - Advanced Herbalism," or "Enchant Gloves - Gatherer." I haven't tested out the stacking of these yet, but in theory you should end up with +20—but this depends on whether or not Blizzard has allowed them to stack—so far I have not been able to raise herb gathering above +17 on any character. I will update this comment as soon as I have results.

If you have the Advanced Herbalism enchant, and want to continue the study, feel free to add your data...

. . .But don't bother trying to farm the recipe Enchant Gloves - Advanced Herbalism. If you read all the way through the comments for recipe drops you will see that some commenters report GMs stating that the recipe is still in the game, though very rare; while one post has a link to a GM conversation screenshot wherein the GM states that the recipe is no longer in the game. The fact that to this day NO ONE has ever posted an experience of this recipe dropping, or from where it drops, I have to conclude that: a) either the few who it has dropped for keep it secret; or b) they simply don't know what they got (and may have even vendored it); c) OR the recipe does not drop anymore. However you can buy it on my server right now for 20k—it's impossible to know if the seller had it drop for them recently, or if they had it in their bank for a long time.
