News Roundup: BlizzCast 16, Dungeon Journal, 4.2 Game Plan and more!
28/04/2011 a las 19:20
In the midst of the flood of 4.2 details they've been sharing, Blizzard have still managed to sneak in some quality posts on their forums. Today's posts include teasers for the in-game Dungeon Journal (a feature previously mentioned at BlizzCon) that will be coming with Patch 4.2, as well as some hope for engineers being tortured by their own devices.
Today also marks the triumphant return of the BlizzCast (the last one having come out before Cataclysm release!), which is now available in magical video format and includes interviews with Tom Chilton, Dave Kosak and Cory Stockton about Patch 4.2!
We're excited to present the first-ever video BlizzCast, now in beautiful full-motion 2D! (Don't forget to wear your 2D glasses.) We've also jam-packed this episode with juicy information on World of Warcraft patch 4.2. Rob sits down with Game Director Tom Chilton to find out what the patch is all about, Lead Quest Designer Dave Kosak lays out info on the new Firelands quest hub, and Lead Content Designer Cory Stockton spits and flows on Ragnaros and the upcoming raid content.
Blizzard Reveals Legendary Staff: Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest
28/04/2011 a las 14:15
Blizzard have finally posted details on the legendary-quality staff coming in Patch 4.2, Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest!
In order to be eligible for the quest chain, a player must first have defeated all encounters of Blackwing Descent, The Bastion of Twilight, and the Throne of the Four Winds, and quest content will require Firelands raid progress (obviously).
Upon completion of the legendary staff, all members of the guild participating in its creation will receive a unique non-combat pet!
In addition to being incredibly awesome (no doubt), the staff also "bestows upon its wielder the ability to transform into a member of the Blue Dragonflight". Whatever this means, it's also incredibly awesome.
What are you waiting for, check out the full preview!
Ever since the death of the Dragon Aspect Malygos, the blue dragonflight has struggled with appointing a new leader. Its members are now torn between the two likeliest successors: Kalecgos, who champions reconciliation with other races; and Arygos, a scion of Malygos who believes that his kind should withdraw from the wo

4.2 Firelands Preview: Bosses, Dragonwrath, and More
28/04/2011 a las 11:18
Blizzard is heating things up with more 4.2 previews after yesterday's stunning videos were released. This time, they're here to tell us about each boss in Firelands and tease us a little about the new caster DPS legendary: Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa\u2019s Rest. Apparently not only will the legendary reward those who receive it, it will also reward the entire guild with a unique non-combat vanity pet!
But wait--they're not stopping there with this preview! According to Blizzard, besides having seven new bosses, 4.2 will also have new mounts, achievements, guild challenges, and a new tier of gear as well as weapons. All in all, it looks like this is warming up to be a really good patch. Hopefully it will be one that serves as this expanion's Ulduar; memorable and rewarding for all ranges of players.
For ages, the Elemental Plane served its purpose as a secure realm to imprison Azeroth's primordial spirits... until the Cataclysm ruptured its boundaries. Without warning, Ragnaros's armies surged toward Mount Hyjal, intent on burning the World Tr

A Guide to Patch 4.1's Vanity Items and a Wowhead Comic
27/04/2011 a las 19:56
As our own in-house artist Noxy would be quick to point out, 4.1 isn't all about the trolls and the 353 epics. It's also not just a filler patch meant to tide us over until Firelands. In fact, according to her, the patch is very important--it has a lot of shiny vanity items to play with! From ones you dig up to ones you're lucky enough to adopt, there were a lot of little things added in this patch. Read on for a wallpaper about them and a miniguide of where to find these fun items.

Noxy was so inspired by the new vanity pets that were introduced that she made a wallpaper for you showing her true feelings towards this patch. Yes, she's awesomely talented. Yes, she should draw more.

Ask the Devs #6: Guild Advancement
27/04/2011 a las 12:23
Blizzard has answered their sixth installment of Ask the Devs focusing on guild advancement in Cataclysm. The topics were fairly broad, but they give a great deal of insight into how Blizzard feels about its current guild system--from the risks of a perk-based system to what future guild levels will look like. Still, it wasn't the most exciting Q+A. It feels like there were a lot of missed opportunities to ask some harder hitting questions about the state of guilds in Cataclysm, particularly how many top PvE guilds have disbanded or suffered a decline since this system's implementation as well as future guild rewards.

In-depth Boss Strategies for Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub
27/04/2011 a las 11:18
Now that the servers are stable, you're probably thinking of queuing for
later on today. As you can imagine, slightly harder heroics is nothing to laugh about--especially if you choose to be brave and PUG them. Add in the fun with rare mount drops, epic BoE drops, and they can even seem like a nightmare.
We here at Wowhead have you covered, though! Every boss page on the database has a strategy up that's current as of last night. We're also posting them here for you in a nice miniguide so that you can use this post as a cheat sheet to how to do every new encounter in 4.1. So sit back and read on if you want to learn how to put those trolls in their place.
Before you get into the strategies, make sure to enter our Noblegarden Contest if you haven't already. It's only got three days left to enter to win WoW Official Magazine subscriptions and more!
This version of Zul'Gurub is quite similar to the old version--the scenery hasn't changed much and some of the old bosses remain. Fortunately for you, there's a lot less trash and a lot more neutral Gurubashi trolls milling about. T
Conquest Changes and Latest Cataclysm Hotfixes (April 26th)
26/04/2011 a las 22:54
Apparently conquest earned for rated PvP was changed to a flat amount regardless of team rating this patch. This was not included in the patch notes, but it's a fairly interesting change--one that's already generating a fair amount of negative feedback on Blizzard's official forums. They're looking into the amounts to see if they need to be changed; right now it's 135 conquest points for winning an arena match and 335 for a rated battleground.
Of course, that's if you can even login. Patch days generally mean hotfixes and today is no exception, but at least
are finally accessible if you're patient enough. There are no estimated deployment times for some of these hotfixes, however, Blizzard says sometime this morning they should be implemented for all servers.
Conquest Earned Changed to Flat Rating
In patch 4.1 the amount of Conquest earned for both Arenas and Rated Battlegrounds has been changed to a flat amount regardless of team rating, to 135 and 335 respectively. This change should of course have been in the patch 4.1 notes, but due to a fairly straight forward error, was not included.

Blizzard Interview with Lead Encounter Designer Scott Mercer

Blizzard has just posted an interview with Lead Encounter Designer Scott Mercer, including a behind-the-scenes look at the content featured in Patch 4.1: Rise of the Zandalari! Of course, most of these answers can now be found in-game but it's still interesting to learn how decisions were made when scaling down the content to support a 5-player format. In addition, Mercer hints that we may see more redesigned classic content in the future of World of Warcraft - including perhaps revamped
