The Weekly Marmot - WoW as an E-Sport
02/11/2010 a las 20:27
The Weekly Marmot goes HD! New camera, new microphone, and 150% more awesome.
For the inaugural episode in the new and updated studio, I depart from the standard Weekly Marmot fare just a little bit and spend some time talking about PVP. Specifically, I talk about WoW's future as an E-Sport. What have other games done that makes them successful? What's missing from WoW arenas? And what can we expect in the future?

Blizzard is once again joining players for a match or two, this time in their
The testing will begin at 4PM PDT (UTC-7) on Wednesday October 27th! They've made some changes since the last time they had a round of testing, including tripling the health pools of siege engines and lowering the damage taken on vehicles before a player hops in for the first time.
If you're around, why not log in to the beta realms and check it out?
We have made a number of changes to Tol Barad and are looking to get some good feedback from the beta players. First off, a few of the big changes.
Siege Engine HP tripled to 1.35m.
Tower HP reduced from 180000 to 150000.
Vehicles now protected from 99% of damage until someone hops in the first time.
There’s now a Spiritual Immunity Area Aura given by the Spirit Healers at all GYs.
4 guards have been added to the bridge spawn point to protect it.

Congrats to CompLexity.Red for an AMAZING performance against *aAa*! A last-second kill of *aAa*'s lock in round four allows C.R to close out this incredible tournament 3-1 in the finals, and they take home $75,000 and championship rings as a grand prize! *aAa* takes home $30,000 in prize money, and LightZ CaMerA ActioN rolls into a strong 3rd for $15,000 in prize money. Congrats to all!

DUDE. Me? Loving PvP? What?
You know, I've never been a big PvP guy, but this? The BlizzCon WoW Tournament Stage? This is pretty damn sweet. I mean c'mon, announcers? Play-by-play? Gladiator-like cheering? I could get into this! And that's just the start...
Likely Cataclysm Release Date: December 7th!
30/09/2010 a las 16:34
Edit: The release date was right there all along, and we didn't see it! See
for the details!
While poking through the game files for the next patch, we found this little snippet of text!
"Arena battles and Rated Battlegrounds are only available during an active player versus player combat season. Season nine will begin on
, so be prepared at that time to take your shot at glory!"
It's official: Season 9 starts on December 14th. Combine this with a blue post from Zarhym...
We are currently planning to end Arena Season 8 as early as October 12. At that point we will go through our normal process to determine who is eligible for the end-of-season rewards. This process should take approximately one week. It's very important for players who feel that they may be eligible for the Arena-specific titles and/or the Wrathful Gladiator’s Frostwyrm to refrain from transferring their characters to another realm or faction until after Arena Season 8 ends.

End of Season 8 and Testing for Season 9
28/09/2010 a las 19:10
Hey, guys, a quick news post coming. Our local Bashiok just posted something exciting on the WoW forums: the next arena season is available for testing on the Cataclysm Beta and you should all go test it provide extensive bug reports and feedback! The official announcement doesn't tell much more than what I just gave you:
Arena Season 9 is now running and available for testing in the Cataclysm beta.
To help facilitate testing we'd like to ask that those interested in providing bug reports and feedback focus on playing arena games, but also participating in the rated battlegrounds. Please let us know if you find any issues or have any feedback. Thanks.
EDIT: Another blue post, this one about arena season 8 ending. It is by the lovely floating skull, Zarhym:

Blizzard Developers will be on the beta realms on Monday September 27th at 4PM PST to test
. You will need to be level 85 to join the battle and the timers between battles will be sped up so several games can be played during this testing period.
We are planning to do a focused playtest on Tol Barad on Monday the 27th at 4pm PST. We would like to get as many players out there on the beta to help us as possible. You must be level 85 to join the battle. We will speed up the game timer so we can play multiple games during the test.
I will make a new feedback post after we finish the test for everyone to post in. Feedback is very important for us at this point so please take your time and try to be as concise as possible with your findings.
Thanks for the help!
Cataclysm Preview: The Battle for Gilneas
16/09/2010 a las 14:19
Blizzard has released another preview, this time of the new battleground coming in Cataclysm -
La Batalla por Gilneas
! This new 10 vs 10 battleground will take place in the actual city of Gilneas, and feature many familiar objectives. Much like
Cuenca de Arathi
, you must control
one of three capture points
that accumulate points - first team to 2000 points is the victor! What's so great about this map that it's actually
the city so there are all kinds of choke points and places you can strategically block the opposite faction from progressing.
You can read the entire preview after the break or on Blizzard's official

Cataclysm PvE Badge and PvP Point Changes
26/04/2010 a las 22:20
Blizzard just posted changes to the badge system in
... they are going to become Hero and Valor points! Basically the PvP point system being applied to PvE raiding.
will be earned from most dungeons (much like
Emblema de triunfo
will be from high-tier raids (like
Emblema de escarcha
While there will be a maximum cap of Valor Points you can earn each week I personally think this could be one of the better changes to come to the badge/emblem/point system since the introduction of them in The Burning Crusade. So what does everyone think of the changes?
On the PvP side,
will replace Arena Points as the complement to Honor Points. Personal rating requirements will also be removed from almost all items, including weapons.
You can read all the details in the original blue post, available after the break.
WSG Experts: The Official WoW Magazine Wants Your Tactics!

The industrious gnomes and goblins at the
World of Warcraft Official Magazine
are currently working on issue two. One of its regular features is
Battlegrounds Back to Basics
—this time around, covering
Garganta Grito de Guerra
As part of that feature, they're looking for hints and tips from WSG veterans. Is that you? If so, please feel free to post your favorite Warsong Gulch
strategies, tactics and tricks that help give you the winning edge! These can either be team oriented, or even class specific.
The best suggestions will be incorporated into the feature as quotes - and of course your character will be fully credited (please include character and realm name!). Remember, these should be straightforward one-liners—we’re not looking for long paragraphs packed with intricate details.
