Mechagon Visitors: Chromie and the Alternate Timeline (Story Spoilers)
22/04/2019 a las 08:41
Mechagon is currently available for testing on the Rise of Azshara PTR, and one of its main features is that every day, new friendly NPCs arrive to Rustbolt to offer you daily quests. One of the visitors with one of the most interesting quests is Chromie!
Story Spoilers for Rise of Azshara in this post!
In the quest
El otro lugar
, Chromie asks us to go on an alternate timeline - One where King Mechagon managed to fulfill his plan of mechanizing every being in Mechagon. Well... sorta. We are there to scan the memories of Clockwork Giants to learn more about them and ensure our timeline's Mechagon Island never turns into this dystopic future. The once peaceful Rustbolt is covered in flames and ashes, with many gigantic Arachnoid Destroyers encroaching the area. Prince Erazmin, leader of the Rustbolt Resistance, is nowhere to be seen.
In my travels of the many possible futures, I discovered another place much like Rustbolt, but different. In this other time and place, very little is alive, everything is machines. You must travel to this other place. You will scan the memory banks Clockwork Giants you find there. Then we will use that data to insure that our Rustbolt never becomes, the other place.
Some of the mechagnomes from Rustbolt are still alive in this timeline, like
, the Upgrade Specialist, and
, the captain of the Rustbolt Guard. Izira gives us more insight into the grisly situation.
They are all gone. King Mechagon won, he activated the Mechoriginator.
Everyone is gone.
> What happened here?
A hologram of King Mechagon appeared in the middle of Rustbolt declaring victory. Then he activated the Mechoriginator.
There was a large blast... fire and panic everywhere!
Most of us were O.K, but those without mechanization were not so lucky.
> Did it reverse the Curse of Flesh?
I believe his research was corrupted, his device flawed. It didn't reverse the curse of flesh as Mechagon planned.
It ignited the skies and burn the flesh of most every living thing. Those of us mechanized enough survived.
> Where is Prince Erazmin?
Clockwork Giants and spiders began attacking Rustbolt soon after the attack. We all fought the bots till our gears gave out.
My legs broke and I was unable to protect Prince Erazmin. He was taken prisoner.
I think King Mechagon wanted him alive.
The surviving residents of Rustbolt put their final hopes into repairing Izira Gearsworn, their strongest fighter. While in the alternate timeline, we help repair Izira by collecting scrap parts in
¡Adaptarse, mejorar, superar!
. Once Izira is repaired, we help start the Rustbolt Resistance anew in
El último acto
, where we kill the leader of Bondo's Yard,
. In this timeline, Bondo sold out the Rustbolt Rebellion in exchange for complete mechanization.
Interestingly enough, on the
Mechagon Introduction Questline
, Prince Erazmin warns us that one of the dangers of completing mechanization is the gnome losing their emotions and their sense of being, turning into mere machines in service of King Mechagon, but this is not the case with Bondo - He recognizes us, which implies that this timeline is one where we managed to reach Mechagon, but failed to complete the Rustbolt Resistance.
Bondo Bigblock: <player!> I expected you to be dead.
Bondo Bigblock: Check out Bondo Bigblock version 2.0.
Another curious fact is that Bondo drops the
Plano: Reubicador temporal personal
, which can be uploaded to
to create the
Reubicador temporal personal
, an item which allows us to return to this dystopic timeline at any point, without Chromie's assistance.
The Fate of Prince Erazmin
In Chromie's timeline, you're able to dodge the gigantic Mechaspider bots and explore the devastated Mechagon, which is filled with Clockwork Giants and other hostile robots. What is likely the most insidious part of this timeline is that we do lose Prince Erazmin to King Mechagon - The rare
El príncipe oxidado
, available only during the alternate timeline, shares a model with
. Like Bondo, the Rusty Prince also talks like he recognizes us.
for helping with the discovery of this rare!
The Rusty Prince: I am so glad you survived <player>, so I can kill you.
The Fate of the Gnomish and Goblin Expeditions
Another curious fact of this timeline is that you can see reanimated
Cadáver sin carne
around the Goblin and Gnomish landing areas, skeletons completely devoid of their flesh. We know at least Mechagon Island got hit by King Mechagon's Mechoriginator device, but just how far did the damage go?
