Wowhead 101 - Using Weightings!
24/04/2009 a las 20:49
I touched on this a little bit on my first post '
Wowhead 101 - Using Filters!
', but weightings are so powerful they need a post of their own.
What are weightings?
Weightings, simply put, are similar to a ranking system. They allow you to assign "point multipliers" to each stat type on an item.
How do these "point multipliers" work?
Well I'll give you an example. Say you have a filter like
(I've added a some custom filtering as well so it only shows 2 results). You can see that the 'Score' is identical for both items. You can play around with the multipliers I've given to see how it affects the score. For example, you could assign a better weighting to stamina over raw health, which is really useful if your class has a talent that affects stamina.
How is 'Score' calculated exactly?
First off a warning. This is a very "math-y" answer, skip to the next question if you are really not interested in the math behind it. :)
First it looks at the item and multiplies the stat by the weighting. In our
Encantar pechera: estadísticas potentes
has 10 stamina on it, so we take 10 multiplied by 10 (weighting points for stamina) to get 100. That 100 is then divided between the TOTAL amount of weighting points we have in our filter. Since we have 10 weighting points assigned to stamina, and 1 weighting point assigned to health, we have 11 weighting points total.
So the resulting math is:
(stat value * weighting value) / total weighting points = score
(10 * 10) / 11 = 9.09 (rounded to 2 decimals)
I've got two different filters, why are the scores so different?
The previous question explains this in math terms. Scores are based on the total amount of weighting points you have entered. So two different filters are not comparible by using the score values.
What are presets?
We have created a number of preset weightings. These give you a basis to start your own weightings.
But the presets are wrong!
We used a very generic template to generate presets. Each player is unique, as such each person's playstyle and gear choices will be also. That is why we created the option to edit the presets. Simply click the 'show details' link and start tweaking!
Can I save my weightings?
Yes, and ... no. There is no way to save the weightings to your wowhead account per-se, however the URL of the page after you have applied the weighting includes the weighting data. This allows you to bookmark the page or save the URL, and all of your weighting data will stay intact.
You can also use the navigation on the site, and your weighting will be kept. For example if you are on
and use the Navigation to go to Items => Armor => Plate, you will see that the filter and weightings have remained.
