WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-Up
Hello! Welcome to the 140th edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!
My name is
and I am a content creator focusing on making gold using Professions and
. I have a number of guides over on
and I also stream my adventures on
Shadowlands Launch Date, When is Pre-Patch?
This week's major new is obviously the official
release date of Shadowlands - 26th/27th October
. Much sooner than many people anticipated and will have a big impact on those trying to get enough gold for their
Now the real part of speculation comes as to when Pre-Patch will be because that is when our mighty mobile auction house will be heading to the Black Market Auction House.
Most guesses have it at around 21-27 September
which seems about right given the release schedule of the cinematics and wrapping up pvp seasons etc.
We'll know for sure once we either get a date or a post regarding the PVP season ending - the latter would normally happen 2 weeks before the actual pre-patch date, so keep an eye out for those over the next couple weeks.
This is going to be a very interesting time for gold making and markets are going to fluctuate wildly. There will be plenty of opportunities to look out for to make some gold or invest in future speculation ...
Old world materials are rising as people speculate on
Relic Vendor Shuffle.
Many will be dumping stock either to clear banks or a last ditch attempt to get enough gold for the Brutosaur.
More players will be returning to see what the fuss is all about.
Token prices are likely to fluctuate. Some will buy them for the gold for the Brutosaur, some will sell for Bnet Balance.
A lot of systems are changing with the level squish, many professions are likely to see differing demands.
makes some good points here ...
All the class, spec, and talent changes go live. BfA systems will stop working outside BfA content. Item levels and character levels will get squished. Heirlooms won’t give exp bonuses anymore, but leveling speed will shoot up.
More notably for goblins, any Shadowlands economy changes will go live. Vendor prices for some items will change and certain items, like a certain Longboi, will no longer be available. Shadowlands items will get an itemID so you can link them in game, but they (hopefully) will remain unobtainable until the actual expac hits.
The only real differences between prepatch and the real thing is the quests and portals which take you to the Shadowlands will be disabled, and the level cap.
The Gold Dipper
Jack the Dipper
has created a new gold making website/blog with guides and news specific to the economy side of WoW -
One of the first articles written is one about the
that have been going on and Jack has experienced this first hand with his own server.
What Makes The Prices Drop?
The biggest impact of dropping prices will be noticeable on low pop realms. They will have to adjust their prices to the new linked realms. Those are most of the time medium or high pop realms.
Also the medium and high pops will notice a price drop because of the increase of sellers that all want to sell their items fast, especially now that the
Reins of the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur
will be removed from the Battle for Azeroth vendor. With the new auction house system the canceling will be a more common thing then it already is on those realms. Sellers that will get impatient will try other methods by undercutting in value hoping the competition will back off or another seller will do the same.
Your Realm Gets Announced for Linking
If you are on a low pop realm, then there is 99% chance you’re realm will get linked with another realm. This means that most item prices will change. Keep the linking date in mind because posting the day before will be almost useless.
If you are on a medium or high pop realm, then you can relax a bit more. Most item prices will change overtime, but for how much is the big question.
The best source to keep track of this is
and find all new and current realms you can go to
TSM DBRegionMarketAvg Value
If you a
addon user, then you will see the region market value drop over the next couple of months, let me explain to you why.
Low pop realms are know for most of the time higher valued items. Why? There is less competition and quantity that will drive prices up. The majority of servers are low and medium pop sizes that have higher prices than high and full pop that are available in smaller numbers.
TSM region values are all realm values of a region combined for 14 days and the average of that is the region value. Because there are more low and medium pop sized realms, the region prices are way higher then the market values for (some medium) high and full pop sized realms.
These regions prices will drop in value the more low pops get linked and have to adjust their prices. the good thing about this is that it will stabilize more and give a more precies region value then before.
The Pet Market Will Make the Biggest Drop
Pet sellers will notice the biggest impact because the high prices on low and medium pop realms will get closer to each other in value and that means lesser profits. Because pets are account bounded you are able to buy them cheaper on high/full pop realms and sell them for more on low/mid pop realms. Now that the low pop realms are getting linked, they have to adjust the prices with the lowest bidder on the new linked realm. The pet market is one of the simplest (not easiest) markets and can be a very profitable market, but that will change in the upcoming three months. The question is, how much.
The Positive Side Effects
Luckily it ain’t all bad, specially for low pop players.
There will be more buyers.
New and bigger guilds and that would mean more pvp players, dungeon players and raiders. Those will need consumables and gear.
More possible trade chat sales.
And of course ‘the more players, the more joy’.
Be sure to bookmark the site and follow the news and guides as they develop.
Crafting Spreadsheet for Mounts
has put together a rather nifty spreadsheet for calculating profits when crafting certain mounts. Namely ...
Vial of the Sands
I have been working on a Spreadsheet for everyone to see how to increase profit and make mounts profitable when it comes to crafting said mounts.
In the spread sheet you will see how i make my mount by three methods which are:
AH Crafting ( i.e. just buying the mats straight up )
Farming To Craft ( with estimated times on how long it would take you to farm the mats in relation to the profit to make an informed decision weather to farm or not ) those times are based off of worthit's averages.
Optimised Crafting ( Requires Alchemist and Smelting )
All you have to do is update the Yellow Boxes in the Mount / Mat Index and the spreadsheet will do the rest for you.
With Optimised Crafting How Ever it will go over multiple methods of sourcing the required mats and use the Minimum cost one for you so you can have more profit but i will say again that you will need an Alchemist and Smelter ( Mining ) to use the Optimised Crafting.
I hope that this is some aid for you all when it comes to producing mounts cheaply and will be making updates in the future to account for Transmutation / Elixir master procs also.
I have made a video going over how to use it also for convenience sake
Have an Awesome Day,
DalaGG ( Jon )
He also has plans to add the
in there which is another popular mount to sell. Thankyou Jon for sharing your work.
Wow Gold Podcast
has started a great podcast series over on YouTube, the first episode staring with a discussion with
regarding mat farming and preparation for Shadowlands.
Ink to stock up on Before Shadowlands.
brings up an interesting question this week regarding the change to the
in Shadowlands ..
In SL, there will be a new ink trader and you will not be able to exchange your roseate pigment to old ink. But prices will be crazy expensive at the start of SL.
Among all of the Inks in dalaran, what Ink are the most valuable to stock up now?
There were a lot of helpful suggestions including
NOTE: you don't have to trade them in dalaran, in org/stormwind there is an ink trader as well (might save some time or might matter if your bank alt is too low level).
On my servers, most glyphs are pretty cheap other than the legion ones and the super rare ones (like glyph of dire bees or dark absolution).
I think the most valuable inks, aside from the legion 'sallow pigments' are:
.. not many people mill herbs that make any of those inks so many people (myself included) just trade roseate for them.
What I did to determine this is check the lowest prices of the set of herbs you are able to mill for particular inks, and see if that price is cheaper than trading roseate.
(note I am using prices on the servers I play on, may be different for you).
= Earthroot, Peacebloom, Silverleaf (typically I can get for 1g a herb)
= Briarthorn, Swiftthistle, Mageroyal, Stranglekelp, Bruiseweed (Mageroyal super cheap sometimes 30-50s a herb)
= Kingsblood, Liferoot, Wild Steelbloom, Grave Moss (only cheap one is kingsblood which sometimes still can be 3-4g a herb or higher)
= Dragon's Teeth, Goldthorn, Fadeleaf, Khadgar's Whisker (Kgadgar's whisker usually only 1g ea)
= Blindweed, Firebloom, Ghost Mushroom, Gromsblood, Purple Lotus, Sungrass, Arthas' Tears (lots of herbs here but usually pretty expensive 4-5g ea)
= Icecap, Sorrowmoss, Dreamleaf, Mountain Silversage, Golden Sansam (Dreamleaf is dirt cheap on my server, same with golden sansam. 1g ea max)
= Outlands herbs (usually very cheap, and lots of herbs to chose from. 1g ea abo)
Ink of the Sea
= Northrend Herbs (some of the cheapest herbs to get. 30s -50s ea)
= Cataclysm Herbs (pretty expensive usually upwards of 3-5g a herb or higher. Also note that you can make the mysterious fortune cards with blackfallow ink making it even more valuable).
Ink of Dreams
= MoP herbs (also some of the cheapest herbs to get. 30-50s ea)
= useless pretty much. doesn't make any glyphs. Only thing you can really make is card of omens which not many people know about (the mysterious fortune cards sell way more). Also the herbs usually sell for vendor price on the AH.
do kinda what I did and check the herb prices on your server.. if the cheapest herbs are expensive (3g+ each), then those are the best inks to make with your roseate.
Hope this helps!
Shadowlands Season 1 starts November 10th
shares a very interesting point regarding the release schedule for the first raid and what it means to us gold makers..
We all already have our calendars marked for October 26th (NA)/27th (EU) for the release of Shadowlands and the new gold making opportunities that await.
Season 1 of Shadowlands with the opening of Castle Nathria starts on November 10th.
So that is only
(Legion and BfA were 3-weeks) from the launch to get ready to start making gold for Raids. It would seem obvious that Alchemy is going to be a big part of this and I suppose cooking as well. Enchants might start picking up too as people will be getting new gear from the Raids. What else comes to everyone's mind?
Along with some great preparation advice from
yea my top priority is going to be leveling professions and grinding recipes for consumables and enchants. food, flasks, pots. i hear there are sharpening stones and armor kits in shadowlands as well, which i imagine will sell decently well. i'm pretty sure most of the crafting professions have a consumable available, but i imagine the big ones are still going to be alchemy, cooking and enchanting.
if you don't have enough max level characters to fill out all the professions, now and pre-patch are great times to level up some more alts. that's probably the most important first step aside from having some liquidity heading into shadowlands release.
What are your plans over the next few weeks heading into Shadowlands? Let us know what you plan to do to make gold and enjoy the game.
