WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-Up
Hello! Welcome to the 143rd edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!
My name is

and I also stream my adventures on
WoD Crafted Transmog might become Unobtainable.
With the recent changes to PTR and Beta,
u/Codosbuya reported the effective removal of the WoD upgrade system
Buried deep below the Wowhead Shadowlands Pre-Patch Build 35917 spell changes, I noticed that many of the Warlords of Draenor essence consumibles to improve the crafted gear using the BoP materials have become grey quality (EDIT: THEY CANT BE USED IN THE PTR AND SELL FOR 0c) and the associated spells in the profession tab have been moved to Uncategorized (AKA, removed).
The reasons why Blizzard has decided to do this, in my speculation, is to remove any unintended behaviour with the Relic of the Past V applied to WoD crafted gear and the essence ilvl upgrade. As a collateral damage, this means that the transmog for upgrading WoD weapons and armor sets will be no longer obtainable when prepatch hits live servers.
In case you are unaware on how this system works, WoD crafted gear had 6 possible upgrades, using consumible items (named essences) to improve the ilvl of the item. Some unique appearances were locked behind Stage 2 and Stage 3 of the item. If this change is final and WoD essences are removed from the game, Stage 2 and Stage 3 appaearances will be, effectively, unobtainable in Shadowlands.

You can see the armor sets and appearances of the weapons here. Leatherworking, Tailoring and Inscription also have unique appearances.
Personally I bought every Sorcerous Earth and Huge Ogre Cache for work orders to prepare for this change as I want the transmog before it leaves the game.
It can change before it hit Live Servers but I doubt it.
TL,DR: WoD upgrading items are no more in the PTR. This change will make related upgraded items transmog unobtainable.
I can confirm this in Beta looking at my own character's list of Tailoring abilities...
The appearances are still there in the Dressing Room in Beta, but unless they get tied with the new Relic system, there may well be no opportunity to get the Stage 2 and 3 appearances.
The tooltip also has the stages removed, but still has the 3 Unique-Equipped categories..
This may cause a scramble in gold making markets here as people see if they can still make them. They take quite an investment in WoD materials, so unless you have your Garrsion set up for production, it may or may not be possible by Pre-Patch.
Alternatively, Blizzard could collect the appearances as part of the Relic system and we can still get the different appearances that way!
Pre-Patch "Imminent", Get ahead on Connected realms with DH/DK
Speaking of Pre-Patch, while we still have no news on an actual date, many are asking what can be done or what opportunities there might be?
points out the with the realm connections happening, this might be a good time to create Death Knights and Demon Hunters on realms that are due to get connected before Pre-Patch and get a step ahead on higher level characters ...
Currently you can only create 1 DH on a server. With the high number of server connections being made, this is a great opportunity to create boosted alts by creating DHs/DKs on those realms connected to yours, bypassing the 1 DH restriction and starting at lvl 98.
Note: You need a character of at least Level 70 on a realm to be able to create a DH.
If you have 0 characters on a connected realm, you can do the following:
Create a DK, turn on War Mode, level it to 70.
Create a DH on that server too.
Profit! When prepatch hits, your DH/DKs will be much higher level than if you created them after. (After prepatch, they will start at lvl 8).
Alliance can level faster since their WM bonus is 30%
Choose an Allied Race when creating a DK, so you'll skip the DK intro quests which take quite a while.
List of realms and their connections:
Keep an eye on these threads on Wowhead for upcoming Realm Connections ...
Of course, you don't need to just focus on future connected realms, now is a good time to consider expanding gold making markets on other servers.
asks the very pertinent question ..
What is the benefit to this? How many DH/DKs does one need?
I'll summarise some of the very good answers below..
More characters = more ways to make gold
Alchemy cooldowns is one thing.
Also diversifying into a completel new server economy is very helpful for gold making.
Having the ability to cover all specs in professions .
Sky Golems, garrisons, making Hexweave Bags
Doing valuable wq repeatedly (like Felwort)
Doing once per character things (like plans for the Sulfuron Hammer)
More characters for more lockouts. This is how I've been mount farming old raids.
Understanding how to setup TSM
posted a very interesting guide aimed for
by making use of the very popular strings and operations created by
Essentially, it is a step by step guide how to use more complex and comprehensive setups like Sheyrah's without going into what they do and how they work. This can be ideal for those who really just want to get going and let the strings do the calculating for them, but carries with it some risks...
brings up the point around understanding how things work..
While I appreciate this quick setup guide, I advise you against blindly copying those price strings, but to copy them and spend some time to understand the strategy behind them.
That way you can adapt and customize those strings if you feel the need to optimize for your market/server.
TSM is about automating YOUR thought process when buying and selling things. WTBGold has a good video about the ideas one can follow when creating price strings, maybe I'll find it and add it later.
Price String Video
counters this with ..
For me it's just been about getting items posted the most quickly. I use TSM for post/cancel and to quickly check profitability of crafts. I've gone through and created my own operations and groups over time but especially in the beginning I was just eager to post/cancel very quickly. Min/maxing things with perfectly customized operations isn't necessary for most.
I think this clearly demonstrates how everyone will be different in how they use TSM and what they want to get out of it. Some will seek to understand and grow their knowledge as they learn. Others would prefer to have something setup and ready to use, so they can get on with other things in the game. And each of these is valid for that person, how they play the game is up to them.

Shadowlands Professions on a Miro Board
So what does Shadowlands Professions look like when spread out in a mind map? u/MustacheKomlit shares his Miro (a mind mapping website) board..
Hey guys and gals i am back with my miro it took a while and i am sorry about that.
Now the details
This miro covers every single profession!
It illustrates what each profession will make, what they need and how much they make.
I also have a vendor section that shows what the vendors give. Along with fishing having pictures of spots to fish for said fish.
Each profession has a sub-section of what it makes so you won't get confused. We have sections with the profession names with numbers to make it more easy to find.
Also each profession has its icon that leads to it. I wrote notes on materials to make sure its understandable for why its out of its group
I try to pin point everything and will be adding more to it. I can't really explain more then that on here but i want yall to enjoy this and let me know any feed back.
I want to expand this more and more.
Here's the link to the miro:

DalaGG's Shadowlands Profession Top 5
has shared a video this week going over his top 5 professions for Shadowlands ...
They are ...
Which professions will you be focusing on first in Shadowlands? Or will you focus on levelling? Maybe no professions and you will be flipping markets? What about gathering? Historically, demand and prices are very high early on.
