Note that in both Firefox and Chrome you can easily go direct to Wowhead's search function, instead of through a search engine like Google or Bing. When I'm looking for something on Wowhead I type "wh <whatever>", such as "wh copperworth", and it goes through http://wowhead.com/search as though I had typed it in the search box at the top of the page here.
Best of luck to y'all with getting this stuff resolved. Wowhead is a great site and I hope to continue visiting it for years to come.
Ok so another update:Confirmed WoW Eden got wiped out, they're gone. We're starting to submit recrawl requests to hopefully salvage some SEO. As you can imagine it's a bit disconcerting to go from #1 usually to being maliciously hijacked in the top result and then vanishing from results. So we're halfway there but the situation is still very stressful for the Wowhead staff.
This is one of the reasons I don't even bother using google when I am looking for wow info (quests, gear, etc.) and just come directly to wowhead and use your search engine. Why bother googling when I want to end up here anyway? I find it just as easy to click my wowhead bookmark and search wowhead directly.
Good to hear it's slowly resolving itself
What is this WoW Eden website?
I think Wowhead searches are recovered now. I searched Calamity's edge and Might of Ursoc via Google, and both returned Wowhead results as the first link.
Thanks for keeping us informed, and more thanks for the good work Wowhead does for the WoW community. I've used your site for many years, so much so that I became and have been a patron subscriber. Your content is excellent and constantly evolving with more features and improvements. That doesn't come easy. I hope Google does step up and help resolve this, but in the meantime I plan to continue using the Wowhead.com website directly - I've actually got it bookmarked not just as a favorite but as my default home page - and do all my WoW related searches directly from the Wowhead.com site itself, not involving Google at all.
I set Wowhead as the default search engine for my browser years ago, so all I have to do is type something in the URL bar and (if it's not a URL) I go straight to the Wowhead search results page. :)
Thank you
What is with you guys that are targeting Wowhead saying they have Malware on their site? I get that ads can be annoying, but would you prefer a few ads or not being able to use a site that has been dedicated to helping players like us for years? I am on Wowhead almost every day looking at something and I have never had any Malware put on my computer and even if by some chance you did get Malware from on here I am sure if you alerted the staff they would take care of the issue.
Probably best way to avoid being unwillingly/unknowingly diverted to a non Wowhead site when searching for something, is to bookmark Wowhead and/or make it your home page, and just search from their site to begin with. I use Wowhead so much that I decided to pay the subscription fee, as it's so low & SO worth it. That way I don't have to deal with any ads trying to load if I'm running WoW & just need to pull up the browser to check something real quick.
