When the prepatch hits, I should probably start counting my deaths by dismounting midair as I've been doing for 1,5 years now... this will be fun
I wonder if we'll see a lot of dead sub rogues at the bottom of cliffs after we lose the artifact ?
Holy !@#$ they are butchering rogues on alpha. I really hope for more changes in the near future.
I've been playing the Rogue class since Wrath of the Lich King and love to discuss the class design, changes and playstyles. Below are my current thoughts on the state of rogues in the BfA alpha.Note: I am currently writing this from my phine at 4:30am so apologies for formatting which I will fix once i've slept and am at a PC.Assassination as a spec has typically been one for newer players and has a clearly defined build that is entirely passive to support that while having a few talent options such as Dispatch and toxic blade to add a little more complexity.I've never been the biggest fan of Sass however the return of dispatch makes me enjoy the spec a lot more, curiously the level 100 row talents support the spec in AoE situations which typically has been a weak point across Legion. The poor synergy between Dispatch and Venom Rush also does need some form of addressing and from a personal perspective I have never enjoyed Exsanguinate, leave bleeds primarily to feral druids.Subtlety is currently in a state that feels only partially done. This spec above all others feels the removal of legendaries much more as noted in the post, especially in AoE situations without the cloak to add the burst damage from shuriken storm. The reinclusion of Find Weakness opens up interesting choices in builds through optimising Single Target burst damage for high impact windows in conjunction with Symbols of Death or in instead maintaining a high uptime when coupled with the talents that provide us more time spent in Shadow Dance. There has been speculation that Death from Above will be removed as it has been for other specs and for me this would be a sad thing to see go. The animation and theme is iconic to me and I enjoy the high impact finisher yet I can understand players frustrated by its tendency to put us in bad positions on some fights such as old Killing Spree.Lastly for Sub, Shadow Blades as a cooldown has always been extremely boring to me and has never felt amazing to press.Overall Sub feels only partly attended to and will see further changes as evidenced by its lack of a 3rd 100 talent and almost complete inability to AoE without the cloak.Outlaw has overall been a spec I have despised across Legion because of Roll the Bones.Thematically and Aesthetically the ability is a home run however Mechanically it is a nightmare which leads me to frustration. I would like to see the animation kept however the ability completely reworked into a cooldown of some description which would give us something else aside from Adrenaline Rush. This would give slice and Dice room to come back in all situations as your maintenance buff. The change to Blade Flurry is welcome as it brings along decision making as opposed to a simple toggle on/off.At the moment Blade Rush hasn't resonated with me in PvE scenarios (damage aside) as the animation is practically nonexistent since you are often point blank with the targets you are using it on.Killing Spree feels fun to press as dancing around from target to target in AoE or around a single target is a flashy and cool set piece ability, it strikes the same feels for me that Death from Above does for Sub.I've found myself actually enjoying Outlaw on Alpha however Roll the Bones still makes me frustrated and likely always will.As a final note I am not feeling as pessimistic about a lot of the changes and am looking forward to seeing how Subtelty and Outlaw evolve over next few alpha builds.
I play Outlaw Rogue only (no sub or sin) on live. This post does a good job of giving you the straight facts of the BfA Outlaw changes. I am going to give my opinion on the changes as well, and I will start off by saying I know things could change since it is only alpha, and azerite armor may also affect things in a good way as well. Outlaw on the BfA alpha is not in a good spot. The nerf to combo point generation on hurts the spec much more than this post hints at. You can try and speed up the spec a little by taking or , but that means not taking , giving you only 5 combo points of space to work with. I took in the first tier of talents to try and speed up combo point generation, but most of the time I would be stuck with an proc that i couldn't use because I was at 4 combo points and it would overcap me. But using instead could potentially cause me to waste an shot. And again, this happens A LOT. It puts you in a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. You could take to have 6 Combo Point slots, or not take , but without both of them combined + I could hardly bare the game-play. I tried many different talent combinations but none feel good to play. With how slow the spec is now, casting actually made me feel like I was hurting myself. The lack of combo point generation makes it so you use your finishers vastly less often than on live, and the spec devolves into drowsily pressing Saber Slash 4 times then . When you go to fight something as Outlaw on BFA this is the general rotation. -, , (Wait because you have no energy), , (Wait), (Opportunity Procs).-You now have 4 combo points out of 5. - will give you 2 and over cap you, Saberslash will give you 1 but may proc Opportunity again, wasting the first Opportunity proc you got.-I tend to for a 5th combo point. -After all that waiting and energy regeneration and boring pressing 1 but, I can't use , I have to use for a buff.-I now have 1/5 combo points because of Ruthlessness. for 2 and that puts me at 3 combo points.- , (wait more), , puts me at 5/5--, (wait) (more waiting), , (Still no procs and more waiting for energy), -(Wait for energy) -More saberslashes....You are SLOWLY pressing 1 button 75% of the time, again and again. And once you get done spamming Saber Slash, you use Run Through once, and then continue pressing Saber Slash again. SLOWLY. Every so often you get a proc for Pistol Shot that you can use. And this is with my talents being set up to get it as close to legion speed as possible. Without Vigor + Slice and Dice + Quick Draw, your energy generation is snail speed, your combo point generation is snail speed and your auto attacks are snail speed.I haven't talked much about some of the longer cooldowns like the lvl 100 row or AR or restless blades. The restless Blades Buff would be really good but you use finishers so much less often in BFA than on live that it feels like AR is on cooldown longer in BfA. And the removal of Curse of the Dreadblades is just the icing on the cake. The burst is gone, you now have a slight ramp up time when before you could instantly be at peak, and gameplay is slow and boring. I stuck without Outlaw all through Legion. And for the longest time in Legion Outlaw damage was as #$%^ as it came. But it was a really fast and fun spec to play. BfA Outlaw may have fine damage. But if you enjoy Outlaw at any part during Legion, this BfA Outlaw is not for you.
nooo we're losing bribe? it's so fun to use though!
I played like one week of Alpha as a sub rogue (my favorite spec for all times) and tell you it's got NERFED to the ground. You are actually dying now against two mobs at once (cause there is no sweet dodge from Artifact) you are dying from falling damage (well I didn't die even once cause I was lucky enough to survive with all these high/low places of Zuldazar with 1% hp once, but overall I don't really like being almost dead cause I wanted to shorten my way down. Mages can do it, priests can do it, hunters and warriors can do it, pallies can do it, demon hunters can do it, why I can't do the same and safe?) Dunno. Someone really hated rogues there in my opinion. That was most boring and most slow leveling experience I've ever had. And I was actually kind of justified this for them "well they are want to return to that time where all stuff was hardcore to the ground to look how people will take "vanilla" treatment in balance". And Actually it make sense. But I don't like that there is a lot of stuff they took form rogue and didn't give ANYTHING in return. This is annoys me. I hope they will add something cool with that azerite treats. Cause if not. It will be boring as hell.
So far I’m not personally liking the changes to outlaw, but I also don’t main a rogue and play only outlaw spec. It just means I’ll wait to level up my rogue alt.
I really hope they compensate all three specs with good azerite gear traits - which I also feel is the overall design approach Blizzard is going for (or trying to, at least). Bare minimums without azerite gear--> customisation options with azerite gear.I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
I'm looking at all these updates, and all I can think is that they're choking the last breath out of the RP part of MMORPG :( Outlaws had some of the most fun abilities, and they're removing them. Warcraft isn't just numbers, people!
