Blizzard, I wish you actually followed these threads and took feedback seriously, but I am not optimistic.I have 2 accounts. My main account with most of my toons, and a secondary account, well to be honest, with some toons, mostly because I wanted it and I can afford it.I just cancelled my 2nd account, and was very specific about why. I indicated that I was unhappy about many game decisions that have been made, and I was also clear I was actually angry.I have been a loyal customer of Blizzards since November 2007. Now, I know that is not as long as many of you, but that is 12 years of my time, which lets be honest, like some of you, my time with Blizzard has been more like a World of Warcraft drug addict than just a normal person enjoying a hobby as a past-time.I read Wowhead pretty much daily, I follow Iceyveins and read the WoW forums. I am now at the tipping point. I almost don't want to read the articles about updates anymore. I have almost a gut feeling that something is not going to go well.I fear that there will be many unintended consequences to this latest 'feature'. I have questions and concerns. This is not just a nerf to the Water Strider. It is much more.- Professions are being nerfed.- Blacksmithing. Blacksmiths make Hoofplates and Stirrups. Hoofplates make your mount faster and Stirrups allow you to interact with items, such as herbs and ore. These are items commonly used not only in this patch, but also in legion. It is a Blacksmithing skill, they use ore to make them, and they are an income generator. Blacksmiths also get the bonus of the buffs timed at 8 hours instead of non-blacksmiths at 2 hours. This profession is now being nerfed. No longer are they usable, and they loose a buff they earn through being a blacksmith and leveling blacksmithing, they loose a revenue stream, and something that just well, makes being a blacksmith unique.- Mining. You just nerfed mining. If Hoofplates and Stirrups are not going to be a thing anymore, Blacksmiths will not be purchasing as much ore (or mining it themselves). Players who use gathering as a means of generating money, will be out. The demand for ore will drop and the effects will ripple through the economy. You just nerfed a gathering profession, good job.- Leatheworking. Leatherworers make Barding. Well, barding keeps you from getting dazed while mounted. You just nerfed Leatherworkers because "not being dazed" will now be a mount equipment, so Barding will as I can tell, be not used anymore. "See above to Blacksmiths" LW will loose their unique crafting buff of 8hrs on barding, they loose the income generation of crafting the item, they wont be buying as much leather as before, unless they are skinners also, but anyway, you get the point. You nerfed LW.- Skinning. See Mining. You just nerfed Skinning. You have made another profession less useful to the entire game! Barding, Hoofplates and Stirrups have been a thing for the last couple of expansions. They are useful. They are useful to the people who use them and the people who craft them. They enhance and enrich the gameplay in many ways. They give you choices, they enrich professions, they help the economy, they add dimension. They are mount equipment! We already have it, you dont need to mess it up.This new feature is not giving us new and exciting choices, or enriching the gameplay. It is nerfing many facets of the game. It is not enhancing professions, because professions are not crafting the equipment. They are actually loosing on this deal. You are not enhancing the economy, just the opposite, the equipment is not player driven, you just buy something from a vendor, other players need not be involved. Water walking on a mount. We already have that. If you want to make it for other mounts, make it an Engineer or Leatherworking crafted item. That will make it available and improve a crafting profession to boot! That will also enrich whatever gather profession that is tied to the mats needed. Holy smokes, you just added a feature and enriched the gameplay and dynamics of the game in multiple ways without taking anything away. How novel. Not being dazed while mounted. Well, we already have that. Barding. It is already a piece of mount equipment. It is made by a profession, Leatherworking. It works as intended. If you want to make it a feature in lower levels, that would be awesome! You could actually improve a profession at lower levels and make something about it actually relevant again during leveling. It would be a welcome addition to LW. Since we all know that basically professions are worthless at low levels and provide no benefits until max level. You are now "adding" something we already have AND have missed the opportunity to actually expand and add depth to the game and professions through a system already in place, by what, spending your time changing something that did not need to be changed instead of spending your time adding depth to something already here.Interacting with items while mounted. Yep, again. In game already. And you guessed it, it is already Mount Equipment. Its called Stirrups. Just refer to the paragraph above on Barding. You just nerfed BS, Mining and the economy. Blizzard, you had the opportunity to add depth to Blacksmiths, make leveling BS more relevant to lower levels again by introducing it to lower levels. Man, you could have givin us something really great here. We have had Mount Equipment for, if I am remembering correctly, 2 expansions so far? I don't remember off hand if Barding, Hoofplates and Strirrups were a thing in WoD or Pandaria. Sorry. But my point remains, we have had Mount Equipment for awhile. AND instead of expanding on it in a productive way that would give more depth to the game, characters, professions, the economy, and choice, you provide us with less options through NPC vendor items and Nerf many facets of the game.As I said, I cancelled 1 of my 2 accounts before writing this. I am disappointed and quite frankly angry. This is just another missed opportunity on Blizzards part to add to this wonderful franchise, create depth and interest and just creativity. Instead, we again get crap.
I still can't make sense of this. My hunter earned the rep and bought the water strider, but all my alts use it on a regular basis. They are all basically using the same mount so will the ability be available to them all when she gets it in the mail. There is no way I can afford to buy it for every one of them but they all need it. I don't care about the other abilities. I want water walking on my water strider and mounted herb gathering on my sky golem for all my alts, the same as I've always had. Why should I be forced to pay out a load of gold to get back something I've already paid for and been using for years?
The whole point of having the Water Striders (I have both the red and blue versions) was it's water walking ability. In fact, the Water Strider is specifically an insect that walks on water. Taking away its inherent water walking ability is a denial of the nature of the mount. Blizzard has never learned the lesson that taking away a buff/talent/ability creates more disaffected players than any other action they can take. Further, they aren't taking away the ability so much as they are creating a new money sink. They are saying, "We'll take away your mount's water walking ability but give it back to you at a price. Oh, and just to be "fair" in the context of our greedy, blinkered world, we'll give you a free set of boots that do the thing we just took away as a special, introductory offer."The fact is that Blizzard is about to issue a patch that involves zones that have lots of water in them and their game designers wanted to make it harder for players to get around in those parts of the world. That reasoning makes no sense at all. We had Water Strider mounts in Vashj'ir, The Kelpthar Forest and Abyssal Depths (along with sea horses and a turtle) so why is this cosmically stupid offense to players necessary now? I don't know but greed always has something to do with it. The Blizzard base line is requiring players to pay for something that they used to get for free. Greed doesn't entirely explain this change nor does it make it any less offensive or stupid. The people who originally created World of Warcraft specifically created a game that they wanted to play. Most, if not all, of those people are gone now. I seriously doubt that they would consider this a change that they would want in their game. As subscriptions decline Blizzard is going to find that some other players are going to find that WoW is no longer a game that others want to play either.
I want it in writing from Blizzard that the water walking ability will be account wide. because otherwise they are taking away an ability that I have and use daily on all my many alts from level 20 upwards. Until I see this confirmation I am going to remain unbelieving and pissed off.
because it will make no differene you absolute turnip! stop complaigning over nothing
Who ever wrote the response from Blizzard must not play BFA when they ask "...how often have you used the water strider mount in the 6+ years it has been available?". Go to BFA and that is all you see. I did not even have it until BFA but with no flying and no water mount it was taking forever to get anywhere so I put in the time and the gold to get one. Now just a few months later they are taking it away. My comment would be for the Blizzard employee making these decisions go to BFA (both continents) and see how many are out running around and then ask this question. Also, there are multitude of unanswered questions. Buy it once and it works for all mounts? Permanent or temp when take damage or after a certain time period (like the potions)? Buy for one mount, does all the alts get to use that mount with the capability? Or have to buy for each mount and each alt? Sounds great to say we are taking water walking away from this but giving it to you on everything. But I bet it's not that simple.
These are just my troubling thoughts not arguing with anyone. I reread the tool tip on the Saddlechute which is and I quote "Saddlechute: Equip in your mount equipment slot to install a emergency parachute that will deploy when dismounted high in the air.". If you accidentally ride a ground mount off of a cliff it is not going to help you. Riding of the cliff does not dismount you, you say mounted right up to the point you plow into the ground?I get a nagging feeling when we get flight in this expansion they are also going to bring in something to cause you to be " dismounted high in the air". If this does turn out to be true and I am very much hoping I am wrong this is a very bad idea unless it is a better reason than just because. Also currently if the game dismounts you because you flew into a non flight area you get a slow fall effect, is this going to be removed? They are adding something new and fun to the game but not giving us the whole picture which is not a good way to inform the players what they are doing. Plus adding something does not mean you have to take something away. They quote the price as been cheap but the only figure I have read is 1000g which while not a great deal is if you have to pay that every time you change the equipment.
So...I agree that going to the trouble of earning the Crimson Water Strider will still make having one unique...BUT....it is a WATER STRIDER that will not be able to stride on water by nature. That is insulting to the players and non-sensical. Shame on you, Blizzard for not thinking this through. It wasn't rocket science.
As someone who farmed the rep during MoP to get the water strider mount, I have to say....this is not an issue. At all. Everyone whining? No reason to whine. Literally nothing's been changed "But what about water walking!" - yea, all your mounts can do that "But what about my leveling mount" - what part of all your mounts can water walk now did you fail to understand? "But I don't want to buy an item again!" - Great. You get one for free if you had the mount already "But the old mount was free!" - no....no it wasn't free. I get MoP was a while ago, but you didn't lie and convince yourself that it used to be free, did you?"But I still want to use the water strider" - then...use it?"But I want to water walk with it too" - ...you're just being stupid on purpose now, aren't you?"But all I did was read the first headline I saw and went on a rant spree after that" - Okay, no one actually said this last one but let's be honest, that is exactly what has happened here. Nothing's changed at all, except now we're not stuck with using one mount to water walk with. Seriously, do people even care about what they're whining about now, or is whining the overall goal? And just one final thought for those who think you've cracked the case about water striders not being able to walk on water...I'd like to remind you all that water walking insects are not fiction. They exist. You want lore and realism? Okay then, go ahead and side on one of those bugs, see how well they water walk then. There's your lore. If you truly cared about lore and logic before, where were you when they were first added "There's no way a bug can waterwalk when I'm on its back!" Because you don't actually care about the "logic". Can't believe I had to type that out.Water walking isn't going away. And if you're upset about not using the other mount effects instead of waterwalking...well then, once again, nothing's been changed for you has it? You've lost nothing.
Can Blizzard go back and make it easier to get some mounts that are darn right impossible to get? "We want people feel a sense of accomplishment". Blizzard quote! I guess spending all the hours needed for the rep, gold to buy it, even more hours to catch random fish to buy the red one. No concern about crushing the sense of accomplishment there!
That would make too much sense.
