What always confused me about this is where did the Alliance intercept their ship. Zandalar isn't exactly close to Stormwind and they would've been sailing towards Orgrimmar. I mean the end of the scenario made sense as they sailed straight back to their continent but the set up was really weird.
It would have made more sense if they were in a Kultiran prison, closer than Stormwind.
Good stuff. This was legitimately my favorite part of BFA. It did such an amazing job setting up new characters and establishing a fresh vibe after Legion. The nighttime/foggy approach, as well as the jailbreak itself (I loved the stealthed part of the scenario) allowed to us to see and interact with Stormwind in a completely new way. The moment when Jaina/the camera turns to see the city in flames was so effective. The familiar, semi-serious, semi-playful banter between Talanji and Zul helped to establish the Zandalari as a proper empire that had been active for a long time. In fact, this opening made me love Zul as a character. He had wit and intelligence that made him charming to the player character, but fearsome to his adversaries in the scenario. If anything, this scenario did too good of a job - the moment Zul has his mask-off villain moment later in the Zandalar questline, he loses all the great characterization he had in the early quests. Just becomes a standard baddie who yells the standard lines like "none can resist my master" and whatnot. Final thing - opening the expansion with a claustrophobic, "stressful" (to the in-game characters, at least) jailbreak scenario made the transition into the cinematic/arrival at Dazar'alor SO sweet. It was such a satisfying contrast to go from outlaws stealthing through canals to breathing free in a massive new city - when the boat sped out from the clouds of fog and into view of Zuldazar - what a moment! The rest of the expansion did not live up to this extraordinary opening.
Was so glad when blizz added the skips for these quests whew.
Absolutely, this quest was amazing at setting the characters up, specially Zul, seeing it was the very first time we actually interacted with him and saw how he was first hand. I really really really loved him as a character and wish he had been worked like some sort of morally gray ally character rather than turning him into standard villain number 14569, I like to imagine how the story would've played out if he had remained as our sketchy yet reliable ally.
