This is one of the rare low level blue's. In a year or so of farming sm for various items, and powerlevelling guildy's i have only obtained 1.

I was lucky, I got this on my first time to the SM Cathedral while doing the quest (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=1053) for the Black Menace (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=6831). Equipped it, used it for the rest of the cathedral (I had a crap dagger and a not so great sword at the time), then when I was done, checked here and almost fell over when I saw how rare it was... There went my mount for a while longer... :(

First, the major misconception.
It's not a 2% droprate. It's a .2% droprate. That's a HUGE difference.

Kill 100 guys and it SHOULD drop off of 2 of them, with a 2% droprate. with a .2% droprate you'd need to kill 500 of the .2% guys before it had a chance of dropping off of ONE of them.

Also, if you look at the numbers, the guy with the higher droprate has been killed the FEWEST times, which means they killed bob 2,400 times and the dagger dropped once, they killed Jack 1,000 times and it dropped TWICE! -- this is probably a complete fluke, which means the dagger has more like a .1 - .05% droprate.

Or you can go for the Hypnotic Dagger which drops off the last boss in Liveside monestary and has a 19% droprate and better DPS (26.8). I got it the first time I tried.

Second issue-- the word "proc" was explained well by the op, but the origin was not taken into account. It's pretty obscure, the word DOES come from everquest but does NOT refer to sound effects. A weapon with a spell effect is said to "proc" when the spell effect is executed. In EQ we had a word that referred to the execution of a weapon based spell effect on a random counter (ie, the Frost spell on this dagger), when talking about the mathematical chance of execution and the various contributing factors (agility, weapon delay, etc) we reffered to the actual execution as "a process". For instance, "With 90 Agility a 2.0 delay weapon should process once every 30 swings."

The effect later became known as 'the proc' because the weapon 'proc'ed it.

Man, this thing looks awesome. Just so you know, its supposed to look like a tanto, or japanese dagger. If you look at the 3D rendering, it basically looks like a mini-katana. But, its so damn rare, you'd be better off trying to get a hypnotic blade from the same instance (Scarlet Monastary).

You're almost right.

If something has a 2% drop rate, than for each individual kill there is a 2% chance that the item will drop. However, if you kill 100 mobs, then probability states that somewhere in all that slaughter, two of the item will drop. The individual drop rate remains the same, but when looking at the entire group of kills, the chance of the item dropping remains proportional.

Otherwise, why would anyone grind? :)

Omg....none of you actually know what a proc truelly is...Itwas not coined in EQ. Back in teh day they had these text based games called muds. Absolutely the same as WoW or EQ, minus graphics. Eventually, as technique progressed, special "procedures" were introduced to make mobs talk and respond as well as having weapons and armor do special things. The abbreviation "proc" refers to a procedure that happens in relation to some material thing. Back in the day each item with a special pocedure, or "Proc", had to be seperately coded -- Nowadays there is a function that allows spells to be added to an item with an inputable % of action. Noobs!

hah, this dropped last night, SM cathedral (run SM about 20 times only dropped once), had a lvl 29 rogue in team, rest were warrior/clothy, so we didn't want it, personally if i had a rogue, i wouldn't pay 5g, its the low end of the 30's range, wait for speedsteel rapiers or the like.

hehe this dropped twice for my 40 rouge. i equipped one and i want to ask how much it would sell for on balzannar. so far i have had no buyers :D. pretty good weapon for 32+

WEAPONS DO NOT PROC IN FERAL FORMS! Unless it's in Moonkin and you hit something with it, but getting a weapon to proc for that reason or putting any enchant like fiery on it would just be stupid and a waste of gold.

This was a great item. I'm not sure what the proc rate is, but about every 4th or 5th hit. Had it for about 9 lvls and I recently dropped it for a 1h sword. Switched specs for my rogue. Good choice, but I suggest this dagger for about 6 or 7 lvls.

How is this weapon in comparison to the Stonevault Shiv? I have a stonevault on my 37 rogue now, but the sliverblade just dropped for me in the Armory of SM. Anyone know which one my rogue should use? I could get an Agi enchant on it couldn't I?

32 Rogue, put +3 weapon damage on two of these. They are great. With poison and a fast attack speed, it stacks up quickly and seems like the damage is nonstop until mob death. I was very impressed with these daggers. The only downside I am seeing so far is that the weapon Frost Damage does not seem to proc very often.

Bought one for 15g, the other for 8g. I plan to use these for a little while.

Found this for first time in 4 months on server AH, bought bought for 10G though I had to stay up all night to protect my bid (no buyout). Awesome Blade, one of the best for mid 30's. Not so much on the stat side, but for the DPS, speed, and damage it's damned good.

Weapon Proc Blasts a target for 45 Frost damage DOES NOT slow movement. Just purchased this weapon instead of Ziggler. The proc is, if I had to guess, around once per mob, sometimes a tad less. I've gone entire mob fights where it would proc twice and once, but never three times. I've never fought two mobs in a row where it didn't proc either.

I've heard The Ziggler procs more El cachetero often, but it's less damage and nature. I favorite frost because I think more PVP / PVE has greater nature resist.
